Westport town officials issued an alert to area residents warning that the Kings Highway Bridge over Willow Brook will be closed as of Monday, Feb. 24 as crews begin replacing the century-old bridge.
The first phase entails the installation of a 36-inch sleeve under the existing bridge, officials said. During the project, Kings Highway will have to be closed to traffic. Nearby residents and business owners will have access to the area, but the bridge will remain closed.
The bridge was constructed more than a century ago. In 2016, Westport officials approved a near $2.5 million bridge replacement project. The first phase is expected to be completed within two months, with the actual bridge replacement beginning as soon as June.
